LinkedIn optimization that actually gets you found by recruiters

Recruiters search LinkedIn the way an ATS is searched. Optimise the few fields that carry the weight — per LinkedIn's own guidance.

LinkedIn optimization that actually gets you found by recruiters

Recruiters source candidates by searching LinkedIn for titles and skills, using LinkedIn Recruiter. Your profile is a keyword surface, exactly like your resume — and LinkedIn's own creator and careers guidance says the same few fields do most of the work.

The high-impact fields

Your headline and 'About' section carry heavy search weight — put your target role and core skills there in plain language, not clever taglines.

Fill the Skills section with the specific tools you want to be found for (LinkedIn weights skills heavily in search), and make job titles searchable — add a clarifying title if yours was internal jargon.

Signal availability

Turn on 'Open to work' (recruiter-only if you prefer discretion), keep location and preferences current, and stay lightly active. LinkedIn's data consistently shows complete, active, keyword-rich profiles get surfaced far more than dormant ones.
